Welcome to the KSD Newsletter
A Newsbletter is born (that's a portmanteau of newsletter and blog, sure is)
A Short Introduction
Hello, there. 👋
If you’re reading this first post in December of 2024, you’re likely a friend or family member. I appreciate your support and will respect your email addresses with care. They are the very first seeds in my digital garden, after all. Thanks for being here.
What is the newsletter all about? I’m someone who’s always been drawn to creating—whether through art, music, writing, or simply reflecting on the beauty of the world around me. For a while, I’ve wanted a space to gather and share my creative work in a way that feels personal, direct, and unfiltered by algorithms or noise. When Instagram goes away, I still want you to be here. That’s why I decided to start this newsletter.
Why now? Because waiting for the “perfect moment” to begin often means never beginning at all. This is my experiment— I have a number of years as both a musician and a visual artist, and have really enjoyed finding community by sharing work on social media. But music and art can both be quite abstract (and therein lies their power to transcends words), so I’ve often longed to communicate a bit more directly with people as well. This is a chance for me to do that. It’s a way to stay in touch with you, my readers, in a simple and meaningful way, without relying on the impersonal mechanics of big tech platforms.
This newsletter will be my little hub on the internet—a home for my projects, thoughts, and writing. I’m currently occupied with maintaining a regular drawing practice as well as learning to oil paint, so expect a fair bit of that. I also have a few thoughts on the creative process, what it means to be an artist, and how this journey connects to meaning in life, which for me is intrinsically linked to the pursuit of God. I don’t have it all figured out, but that’s part of the fun. My hope is that it will be a space for me to learn, to grow, and hopefully to inspire or encourage you along the way.
If you do stick around, here’s what you can expect:
• Bi-weekly reflections on creativity, art, and the intersections of faith and life.
• Thoughts on literature and storytelling.
• Original artwork and a look into my creative process.
• Occasionally, downloadable content (art or music) and audio for paid subscribers.
• And, who knows, maybe more as this space evolves.
Thanks for being here as I take this first step! Your presence means a lot to me 🐊
